They placed 87th (top 10%) among 859 teams from South American universities, representing Universidad ORT Uruguay the South American Finals of the ACM International Programming Contest, organized by the Association for Computing Machinery. Marcelo Duarte, a graduate of the Software Analyst program and Managing Partner of HPSGaming, received the “Genio” trophy for Innovative and Entrepreneurial Company of the Year at the “Nova 2010” Awards, organized by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), the Uruguayan Chamber of Industries, and the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI). HPSGaming is the first company in the country to design and manufacture gaming machines (slots), electronic tables (table games), and games for the casino industry. December. Their company, Kizanaro, was one of three Uruguayan companies recognized for its innovative products and services and its contribution to local economic development at the “13th Inter-American Microenterprise Forum” (Foromic) organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). October. Mariana Gutiérrez, graduate of the Telecommunications Engineering program. Her company, Do it Developers, received support from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). The company emerged as a project from the pre-incubator of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). The support consists of $20,000 to boost its development as an innovative company. April. Joaquín Almandoz, Student in the Programmer Analyst program. His startup “SMS Gratis” received support from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) through the Young Entrepreneurs call for proposals. The company emerged as a project from the pre-incubator program of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE).
