2011 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay
3 Universidad ORT Uruguay FROM RECTOR am pleased to share with you some of our university’s key activities during 2011. While it is inevitably impossible to include every initiative undertaken by our growing academic community, I trust that this brief summary will allow you to appreciate the quality and diversity of our institutional life. The Electronics Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering programs were accredited under the MERCOSUR Program Accreditation Mechanism for the maximum term of six years. Thirty faculty members and researchers from our university were classified as active researchers by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). The School of Management and Social Sciences was once again ranked among the top 30 in Latin America in the annual ranking by América Economía magazine. In 2011, we inaugurated the new building for our School of Design, which aims to become a regional center of excellence in the discipline. Within this framework, the International Animation Program was launched with the academic support of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), one of the world’s most prestigious universities in the field of visual and performing arts. In sports, for the eighth consecutive year, we won the overall championship in the National University Multi-Sport Championship and five championships in swimming, basketball, handball, and hockey. More than 450 professionals graduated in 2011. We continue to expand our network of international academic partnerships by signing 14 new agreements with universities in 10 countries, and nearly 100 international students came to study at our university. I invite you to explore this yearbook and learn about our vibrant academic and institutional life, whose goal is to foster an intellectual community from which to reflect on the country and its future.
