44 2011 Yearbook Institute of Education The Ceibal Plan and the Teaching Practices of Mathematics Teachers The objective of this project is to identify, describe, understand, and analyze the teaching practices of mathematics teachers in the first year of high school following the implementation of the Ceibal Plan. It seeks to understand how the Ceibal Plan impacts expectations regarding teaching practices and teachers’ professional development. Principal Investigator: Ana Olmedo, Academic Secretary, Institute of Education. Funding: Center for Technological and Social Inclusion (CITS), Plan Ceibal. Duration: 16 months. Public Service Delivery in Basic Education: Institutional Arrangements, Governance, and Educational Outcomes in Chile and Uruguay. The objective of this project is to analyze the factors involved in the governance of the education systems in Chile and Uruguay. This is a joint research project between the University of the Republic and Universidad ORT Uruguay forms part of an international project by the Global Development Network on governance in the public sector. Principal Investigators: Denise Vaillant, Academic Secretary, Institute of Education, and María Ester Mancebo, Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of the Republic. Funding: Global Development Network (GDN) Duration: 18 months Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences Firm Economic Performance, Behavior, and Human Resource Management The objective of this project is to conduct an empirical quantification and estimation of the relative impact that human resource management practices have on the economic performance of Uruguayan firms and on their innovative behavior. It considers structural variables such as company size or family business status. Principal Investigator: Adriana Cassoni, Researcher, School of Management and Social Sciences. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and María Viñas Fund Duration: 18 months School of Architecture Case studies enabling a comparative analysis of two large-scale initiatives to improve the quality of education The main objective of this project is to develop lines of research related to the Ceibal Plan and the design of educational buildings. Principal Investigator: Paula Cardellino, Professor and Researcher, School of Architecture, and Roine Leiringer, Reader in Construction Management and Economics at Chalmers University of Technology.
