He was appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Argentine–Brazilian Center for Biotechnology (CABBIO), representing Uruguay. October. Ariel Burschtin, graduate of Systems Engineering; Álvaro García, graduate of the Bachelor’s Degree in Systems; and Ruben Sosenke, graduate of the Information Technology Analyst program. Their startup, Pedidos Ya!, was one of two Uruguayan companies selected by the Endeavor International Entrepreneur Selection Panel. This startup was pre-incubated by the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). In March, it had received financial support from Prosperitas Capital Partners, the manager of the Emprender Fund. December. School of Engineering Matías Preciozzi Student in the Programmer Analyst program. He won First Prize in the Smart Challenge University Edition competition organized by the company Genexus. He developed the ArTur Mobile app, which allows users to identify monuments, buildings, squares, and other points of tourist interest using a smartphone. September Santiago Arreche Graduate of the Master’s in Engineering by Research. His master’s thesis, “An Ontology-Driven Approach to the Causal Analysis of Software Defects,” won First Prize in the Computing Category of the 2011 Graduate Thesis and Final Engineering Projects Competition, organized by the National Academy of Engineering of Uruguay. November. Mathías Cenas Student in the Operating Systems and Networks Technician Program. He was a member of the Uruguay Group whose proposal won Third Place in the competition organized by NASA, as part of the RASC-AL (Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts Academic Linkage) project. The group also included Victoria Alonso-Pérez, a student at the University of the Republic, and Maximiliano Pereira, a student at the University of Labor of Uruguay, and was mentored by Architect Giorgio Gaviraghi of the eDL studio in Montevideo.
