2012 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay
3 Universidad ORT Uruguay FROM RECTOR pleased to share with you some of the highlights of our university’s activities in 2012. While it is not possible to include all the activities of our academic community here, I hope this brief summary will give you a sense of the dynamism and diversity of our institutional life. In 2012, ORT Uruguay celebrated 70 years of uninterrupted educational activity. Since our origins in 1942 as a technical school, much has changed at ORT and in the world, but we have kept our spirit and our mission to expand educational opportunities for Uruguayans intact. This year we inaugurated a library in Pocitos, representing a major investment in the quality of our education and a contribution to our city’s culture. Thirty-four faculty members and researchers from our university were classified as active researchers by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). The Institute of Education launched the Doctorate in Education, the only one of its kind in our country. In 2012, the School of Administration and Social Sciences was once again ranked among the top 30 in Latin America in the annual ranking by América Economía magazine and was recognized as an Excellent Business School in the Eduniversal Business Schools Ranking 2012. More than 850 professionals graduated from our university in 2012. We continue to expand our network of international academic partnerships by signing 33 new agreements with universities in 15 countries, and more than 135 international students came to take courses at our university. We will continue to envision the future and assess major international technological trends to keep training the professionals and technicians our country needs, and to contribute to the production of knowledge useful for national priorities.
