3 Universidad ORT Uruguay FROM RECTOR pleased to share with you some of the key events at our university during 2013. It is not possible to include here all the activities of our academic community this year, but I hope this brief summary will give you a sense of its dynamism and diversity. The School of Business and Social Sciences, on its 25th anniversary, was once again ranked among the top 35 in Latin America in the annual ranking by América Economía magazine and was recognized as an Excellent Business School in the Eduniversal Business Schools Ranking 2013. The Master of Business Administration program was accredited in 2013 by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), placing it among the top 6% of accredited MBAs worldwide. In 2013, the country’s first Biotechnology Technicians graduated from this innovative program, which has by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). The university developed Uruguay’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focused on teaching programming to teenagers, in partnership with Plan Ceibal. The pilot edition of this course involved 170 teachers and more than 1,000 high school students from across the country. Forty faculty members and researchers from our university were classified as active researchers by the ANII. In 2013, 970 professionals graduated. We maintain academic agreements with 150 universities and organizations in 28 countries, through which this year more than 160 international students took courses at our university and 65 of our students spent semesters abroad. At the international level, a particular highlight is the appointment World ORT Dr. Dan Shechtman, winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, as Chair of the Academic Advisory Board of World ORT . At a time when education is a priority for our country, we reaffirm our commitment to continue striving to train professionals and technicians dedicated to national development and to contributing to the production of knowledge that benefits Uruguay.
