131 ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTER FOR INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (CIE) 2014 The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) aims to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students and strengthen ties between entrepreneurs and the business sector. In 2014, 20 business ideas were submitted to the CIE. The startups Cluval, EduGames, GPSGAY, IDATHA, Isabela, Keymonitor, Me!Humanity, ProSignIT, Simdesign, and Virtual Learning underwent a rapid maturation process, establishing themselves as companies. The startup Wupiti! received, for the second consecutive time, funding from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). The startups Al Toque, IDATHA, Trulyam, and GPSGAY received angel investment from private investors. In 2014, the CIE organized the launch of the Emprende Cultura project, the workshops "Entrepreneurial DNA," "Idea Generation," "Leader & Art," and "Bluemix" as part of IBM’s Apps Challenge competition, and the Global Entrepreneurial Marketing course. It developed 52 activities aimed at raising awareness among young people and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, reaching over 1,350 university students. NOTABLE STARTUPS IN 2014 Flipped!. Entrepreneurs: José Chiarino, Felipe Coirolo, Mariano San Andrea, and Nicolás Saúl, graduates of the Systems Engineering program. Qualified for the 2014 Imagine Cup World Finals in the Innovators category. LockIT. Entrepreneur: Mariana Morales, a senior Systems Engineering student. Won the National Franchise Award. Paganza. Entrepreneurs: Marcelo Lanfranconi, a Systems Engineering graduate, and Leonardo Vernazza. Competed representing Uruguay at App Circus Barcelona 2014. Furthermore, Marcelo Lanfranconi was recognized among the most innovative in the 2014 edition of MIT Technology Review – Innovators.
