2016 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay
3 MESSAGE FROM RECTOR . Jorge Grünberg I am pleased to share with you some of our university’s activities from 2016. I hope this overview will give you a sense of the diversity and dynamism of our institutional life. In 2016, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) inaugurated its new headquarters, which strengthens the development of entrepreneurs, the promotion of innovation, and the connection between knowledge and business and society. Since its creation 16 years ago, the CIE has supported more than 800 ideas presented by students and graduates, who received guidance to turn their projects into self-sustaining businesses. Also in 2016, we inaugurated the Center for Australian Studies, the first of its kind in Latin America, whose objective is to deepen ties between Australia and the region and promote academic cooperation with Australian universities. The School of Business and Social Sciences was once again ranked among the top 30 business schools in Latin America in the annual ranking by América Economía magazine. The School of Management and Social Sciences was also recognized as a Registered Learning Partner by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Additionally, the Master’s in Financial Management was accepted into the CFA Institute University Recognition programme. The school signed a dual-degree agreement with Florida International University, allowing students in the Bachelor’s in Management and Administration program to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in International Business. The School of Communication and Design inaugurated Media Lab, a research space that promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in the fields of communication and design. La Casa Uruguaya, a self-sustaining home designed by students and graduates from all faculties and winner of the 2015 Solar Decathlon Latin America and the Caribbean international competition, was awarded the National Energy Efficiency Prize in the Buildings category by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining. In 2016, 1,179 professionals graduated, including the first two Doctor of Education degree recipients. More than 40 faculty members and researchers from our university were classified as active researchers by the ANII. We maintain academic agreements with more than 170 universities and international organizations in 27 countries, which foster academic exchange. This year, 141 international students took courses at our university, and 115 of our students spent semesters at universities in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Providing advanced, high-quality education is our mission. We will continue to do our utmost to fulfill this mission for the benefit of our students and graduates, and of society as a whole.
