88 2016 Yearbook Dr. Andrés Ferragut (United States) Associate Professor in the Data Networks area. He presented the paper “How long should we remember something? Optimal timer-based caching policies under general request processes” 7 at the peer-reviewed Stochastic Networks Conference, organized by the University of California, San Diego, June 20–24. Dr. Fernando Paganini (United States) Professor of Telecommunications Theory. He visited the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, to work with Dr. Steven Low, professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Caltech, as part of a project approved by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), July 26–August 3. He made an academic visit to Johns Hopkins University to work with Dr. Enrique Mallada, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at that university, Baltimore, Maryland, October 5 and 6. He delivered the seminar “Controlling populations in networks: a macroscopic view from fluid queues” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 13. 7 Conducted together with Eng. Ismael Rodríguez, research teaching assistant, and Dr. Fernando Paganini, professor of Telecommunications Theory. Dr. Inés Friss de Kereki (United States) Professor of Programming. She presented the poster “Scratching in the Code Yourself and a Programar MOOCs” 8 at the Scratch@MIT Conference, Cambridge, August 4–6. She presented the article “‘Code Yourself’ and ‘A Programar’: a bilingual MOOC for teaching Computer Science to teenagers” 9 at Frontiers in Education 2016, Erie, Pennsylvania, October 12–15. He presented the paper “Optimizing TTL caches under heavy-tailed demands” 10 at the annual ACM Sigmetrics/Performance 2016 conference on network performance, organized by ACM Sigmetrics, Juan-les-Pins, June 14–18. Alejandro Adorjan, M.Sc. (Ireland) Associate Academic Coordinator of Systems Engineering.
