13 INSTITUTIONAL NEWS 2017 La Casa Uruguaya first prize in a competition organized by the Chilean Wood Corporation La Casa Uruguaya, a project designed and built by students, graduates, and faculty members from all the schools at Universidad ORT Uruguay, won first place on August 10, 2017, in the competition "The Public Chooses. Wood Architecture," held as part of Wood Week 2017 in Chile, an annual event promoting the use of wood organized by the Chilean Wood Corporation. The competition aimed to highlight projects built between 2007 and 2017 in Latin America where wood plays a significant role, whether in the structure or in the cladding. In this first edition, 21 projects were submitted, including homes, hotels, gyms, office buildings, and retail spaces. La Casa Uruguaya the only project submitted that was built abroad. This recognition adds to the one received in late 2015, when it won the 2015 Solar Decathlon Latin America and the Caribbean international competition in Colombia, and to the National Energy Efficiency Award in the Buildings category awarded by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining, received in November 2016.
