2017 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay

3 MESSAGE FROM RECTOR . Jorge Grünberg I am pleased to share with you some of our university’s activities from 2017. I hope this selection allows you to appreciate the quality and dynamism of our academic community. In 2017, ORT celebrated its first 75 years in Uruguay. We have changed significantly throughout our history, but our mission to support the country’s development through education remains unchanged. We remain convinced that education is essential for people to live with dignity and autonomy. In 2017, we inaugurated the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Center, with the support of the National Agency for Innovation and Research (ANII), which aims to promote collaboration between companies and public and private institutions, and to provide new scientists with the opportunity to conduct industry-related research. Through an agreement with the University Study Abroad Consortium, comprising more than 30 universities in the United States, our university is one of the hosts for its programs worldwide. The School of Business and Social Sciences was once again ranked among the top 25 business schools in Latin America in the annual ranking by América Economía magazine and recognized as an Excellent Business School by the Eduniversal Business School Ranking. The faculty was also accepted as a member of Principles for Responsible Management Education, an organization that links the United Nations with higher education institutions in the business field. La Casa Uruguaya, a self-sustaining home designed by students and graduates from all faculties and winner of the 2015 Solar Decathlon Latin America and the Caribbean international competition, took first place in the “El Público Elige. Wood Architecture" contest organized by the Chilean Wood Corporation. In 2017, 1,304 professionals graduated. More than 40 faculty members and researchers from our university were classified as active researchers by the National System of Researchers. We maintain academic agreements with more than 180 universities and international organizations in 30 countries. In 2017, 126 international students took courses at our university, and 121 of our students spent semesters at universities in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We aspire for our country to become a producer of goods and services with high knowledge and technology content, providing greater opportunities for its citizens in the knowledge society. On this 75th anniversary, true to our history, we reinforce our commitment to contributing to the achievement of that goal.
