9 INSTITUTIONAL NEWS 2017 Agreement with the University Study Abroad Consortium In March 2017, the university signed a collaboration agreement with the University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing study abroad programs for college students. This consortium, headquartered at the University of Nevada, Reno, comprises more than 30 universities in the United States. Through this agreement, Universidad ORT Uruguay the group of universities that host USAC programs worldwide. Recycling Campaign at the University Since 2017, Universidad ORT Uruguay initiatives to recycle part of the more than 600 kilograms of waste generated daily by the institution across the more than 25,000 m² it occupies. The initiative was spearheaded by Inés Tiscornia, assistant coordinator of the Biotechnology Laboratory. Visit by the President of the Australian Senate Stephen Parry, President of the Australian Senate, visited the university’s Australian Studies Centre (ASC) on June 5, 2017. Dr. Nicolás Gambetta, an executive member of the ASC’s advisory board, hosted a reception in honor of the senator, attended by the Australian Ambassador to Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, Noel Campbell; the Honorary Consul of Australia in Montevideo, Alfredo Taullard; and the university’s Academic Vice President, Julio Fernández.
