2018 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay
56 2018 Yearbook Innovation in Teaching Methodology This project aims to reduce dropout rates by increasing student motivation through the use of blended learning in the most challenging subjects. It includes the development of course content and infrastructure, as well as the creation of software that enables personalized student monitoring. The selected subjects are Mathematics and Programming. Project Leader: Mario Fernández Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and Center for Innovation in Engineering (CII) Duration: 24 months Optimization of Energy Storage in Electric Grids The objective of this project is to investigate the optimal operation of an electric grid that integrates short-term energy storage methods, such as batteries. The main purpose is to quantify the impact of such storage facilities on short- and long-term dispatch, and the resulting effect on the cost of meeting demand. Principal Investigator: Fernando Paganini Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) Duration: 18 months Stochastic dynamics of large games and networks (GENE) This project aims to contribute to the study of performance evaluation and control of telecommunications networks, using tools from game theory and probability theory. The research team is composed of academics from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), the University of the Republic, and Universidad ORT Uruguay. Principal Investigator: Andrés Ferragut Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) Duration: 17 months Recombinant expression of Bm86 and subolesin as candidates for the development of a vaccine against native tick species This project aims to carry out the recombinant production of tick-specific antigens present in the Uruguayan cattle herd, with the potential to be used to immunize cattle as an alternative to the use of acaricides. Principal Investigator: Carlos Sanguinetti Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and La Buena Estrella, within the framework of the Center for Innovation in Engineering (CII) Duration: 12 months PROJECTS INITIATED OR APPROVED IN 2018
