2019 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay
3 MESSAGE FROM RECTOR . Jorge Grünberg I am pleased to share with you some of our university’s activities and achievements in 2019. I hope this selection gives you a sense of the dynamism of our academic community. In May, the CIE BIO Biotechnology Incubator was inaugurated, promoted by the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Center (CBI+I), the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Universidad ORT Uruguay the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC), has support of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). As of 2019, the university is part of the United Nations Academic Impact network, a consortium of institutions that promotes the UN’s academic activities to support and contribute to the achievement of this international organization’s goals. The School of Administration and Social Sciences was once again ranked among the top 25 business schools in Latin America in the annual ranking by América Economía magazine and was recognized as an Excellent Business School by the Eduniversal Business School Ranking. In 2019, it joined the Silk-Road Entrepreneurship Education Network alongside Zhejiang University in China, with the aim of promoting education for entrepreneurship and innovation in the member countries of the Silk Road initiative. Meanwhile, the MBA program was ranked among the top 133 in the world according to the QS Global Executive MBA Rankings. The School of Communication and Design became a full member of Cumulus, the world’s only association for education and research in art and design, comprising more than 280 universities from 57 countries. La Casa Uruguaya, a self-sustaining home designed by students and graduates from all faculties and winner of the 2015 Solar Decathlon Latin America and the Caribbean international competition, was one of four projects highlighted at the fourth assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme held in Nairobi. In 2019, the Master’s in Communication and Marketing Management was launched in the School of Communication and Design, and the Specialization Diploma in Business Analytics was launched in the School of Administration and Social Sciences. During 2019, 1,245 professionals graduated. More than 35 faculty members and researchers from our university were classified as active researchers by the National System of Researchers. We maintain academic agreements with more than 200 universities and international organizations in 33 countries, which promote academic exchange. This year, 119 international students took courses at our university, and 54 participated in the University Study Abroad Consortium programs, comprising more than 30 universities in the United States, of which our university is a host. In turn, 113 of our students spent semesters at universities in Germany, Belgium, Canada, South Korea, China, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, and Turkey. The threat in this new world is ignorance; an ignorant nation cannot be free. We must increase opportunities for more Uruguayans to graduate from college and ensure that those opportunities are more equitable. We must be a small country with big dreams. Dreaming is not the opposite of acting; dreams are the precursors to great projects.
