59 STUDENT PROJECTS WITH EXTERNAL ORGANIZATIONS 2019 School of Engineering 3Dify: Platform for generating high-fidelity 3D objects Authors: Bruno Ferrari, Mateo Forrestier, Gonzalo Linares, Santiago Méndez, and Diego Zuluaga Organization: Beta Labs The objective of this project was to develop a platform for generating high-quality 3D models suitable for use in Augmented Reality. The platform consists of a Shopify application (an e-commerce engine that enables the creation of online stores) and a website. The stated goal was to increase sales through the app by utilizing these 3D models and to strengthen Beta Labs’ standing with its partners (Shopify and Apple) and clients. The team had to navigate a rapidly evolving environment, working with unstable technologies not yet released to production, while meeting the client’s high standards for interface design and user experience. Major: Systems Engineering Advisor: Ricardo Szyfer, Eng. Project: Chatbot for ANCAP Employees Authors: Nicolás Burone, Andrés Canessa, and Gastón Domínguez Organization: National Administration of Fuels, Alcohol, and Portland (ANCAP) The objective of this project was to implement a conversational bot for use on the internal network by ANCAP employees (a Uruguayan public company that imports, refines, and sells petroleum products), with a focus on extensibility and the easy addition of new features with minimal impact from changes. The company’s goal is to explore the technologies and services provided by the Microsoft Azure platform. This conversational bot must comply with security restrictions, log generation, and back-office integration. To get this project off the ground, team members had to train in Bot Framework, LUIS, QnA Maker, and Active Directory technologies, as well as in artificial intelligence, conversational user interfaces, and bot architectures and designs. The result was a highly customizable product that allows users to interact in a user-friendly and accessible manner through a frontend on ANCAP’s internal website. Degree Program: Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Advisor: Amalia Álvarez, B.A.
