76 2019 Yearbook Workshop: “Teaching Mathematics: The Transition from Elementary School to University” On July 4, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the workshop “Teaching Mathematics: The Transition from Elementary School to University,” led by Architect Marcel Perchman, a tenured professor of Mathematics 1 and 2 at the faculty. This activity was designed for secondary school mathematics teachers and included teamwork, a hands-on workshop, and playful learning tools. The activity aimed to coordinate content and general aspects of the subject to facilitate students’ transition from secondary school to university. Academic Meeting for the Exchange of Design Experiences with High School Teachers The Faculty of Architecture organized the academic meeting “Design Tools for Architecture,” which brought together high school teachers from various schools across the country. The objective was to share perspectives on the management and use of design tools. During the event, held on July 9 at the Pocitos campus, Architect Pablo Raviolo, full professor of Drawing 1 and 2, and Architect Fernando Montaño, full professor of Technical Design 2, presented the transition from the AutoCAD program to the new BIM system, which aims to familiarize students at an earlier stage with the latest technologies in the field. During the meeting, an exchange of experiences took place with the aim of promoting a paradigm shift toward a collaborative environment based on synergy between different disciplines and stakeholders, aimed at improving students’ skills for their transition to higher education. Spaghetti Challenge Contest On August 22, the School of Architecture organized the first edition of the Spaghetti Challenge contest, in which 5th- and 6th-year high school students from any academic track were tasked with building a structure using spaghetti and instant glue capable of supporting the weight of several bricks. Thirty-two students from high schools across the country participated. First prize went to Sergio Duarte, a student at the UTU Institute of Construction Education, who received a 70% scholarship to pursue a degree in Architecture or a Bachelor’s in Interior Design. Second place was awarded to Santiago Arizcun and Gastón Palermo from the Juan Zorrilla School in San Martín. Both students received 100% scholarships to study Design and Project Management with AutoCAD. Architecture students carry out construction projects and assignments at the La Muralla Foundation Students in the Construction Procedures 4 and Steel Framing Workshop courses within the Architecture program conducted practical assignments in traditional and dry construction during the second semester of 2019 at the headquarters of La Muralla, an NGO located in Arroyo Seco that aims to promote the social inclusion of low-income children and adolescents.
