Alejandra Espíndola, a graduate student in the Protein Technology group of the Department of Biotechnology; Magdalena Ripoll and Víctor Vaccaro, graduates of the Biotechnology Engineering program and graduate students in the Protein Technology group of the Department of Biotechnology. The Biovalor project, a Uruguayan government program implemented by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM), the Ministry of Housing, Land Use Planning, and the Environment (MVOTMA), and the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP), awarded them financial support to carry out their graduate thesis projects. Espíndola is writing his thesis on the revaluation of sorghum proteins for use as therapeutic drug carriers. Ripoll, who is also a research assistant at the faculty’s Biotechnology Laboratory, is writing his doctoral thesis on the biotechnological revaluation of industrial waste glycerol, while Vaccaro, who is currently working on his master’s thesis, is seeking biotechnological solutions for the degradation of antibiotic contaminants in milk. All are supervised by Dr. Lorena Betancor, professor of Protein Technology at the faculty. April. School of Communication and Design Clarisa Bielawski, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Industrial Design. She is part of the Estudio Sámago team, alongside Ernesto Fasano and Pablo Jaime, which won first prize in the “Challenge in the Use of Panels” category (professional division) of Brazil’s international Prêmio Salão Design 2020 competition for their Lazo rack. March. Additionally, the Lazo rack was selected as a finalist in the Product Design/Industrial Design category at the 7th Ibero-American Design Biennial held in Madrid. November.
