He presented the webinar “Smartphones: A Tool for Research in Times of a Pandemic,” alongside Dr. Arturo Martí, a professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of the Republic, as part of the webinar series of the Inter-American Network for Teacher Education of the Organization of American States (RIED-OAS), titled “Responding to COVID-19. Teaching STEM in Quarantine,” July 10. Additionally, he presented the papers “The physics of a yo-yo using a smartphone” 9, “The smartphone as a hydrophone” 10, and “A simple determination of Planck’s constant with a smartphone” at the AAPT Virtual Summer Meeting 2020, organized by the American Association of Physics Teachers, July 19–22. Dr. Lorena Betancor (United States) Professor of Protein Technology. She presented the article “Hybrid nanostructures for magnetic hyperthermia-mediated activation of enzymes” virtually at the 2nd International Congress on NanoBioEngineering organized by the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, which took place in Chicago from October 24 to 30. 9 Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Arturo Martí, Professor of Applied Physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of the Republic, and Professors Isabel Salinas and Juan Antonio Monsoriu, Associate Professor and Full Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, respectively. 10 Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Arturo Martí, professor of Applied Physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of the Republic. Dr. Lorena Betancor (international) Professor of Protein Technology. Eng. Magdalena Ripoll (international) Research teaching assistant at the Biotechnology Laboratory. Graduate in Biotechnology Engineering. Víctor Vaccaro, Engineer (international) Master’s student in the Chemistry track of the Basic Sciences Development Program (Pedeciba) conducted at the Biotechnology Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Betancor. Graduate in Biotechnology Engineering from the School of Engineering. Dr. Betancor served as a judge; Eng. Ripoll presented the poster “Cell-immobilized biocatalysts for glycerol bioconversion” 11 and Eng.
