111 Universidad ORT Uruguay OF THE CENTER FOR INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (CIE) 2012 The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) aims to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among students and strengthen ties between entrepreneurs and the business sector. In 2012, 22 business ideas were submitted to the CIE, which received support through mentoring and access to networks to help develop them into business models; of these, nine graduated from the program and six were incorporated as companies. The startups Milanna and Paganza obtained funding from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) through its Young Entrepreneurs call for proposals. The startups admitted to the CIE in 2012—ComparTeVe, FashionBox, Funupp!, and Ninjas—achieved rapid growth, establishing themselves as companies. In 2012, the CIE organized the workshops “The Body Speaks” (May), “Starting Point for Entrepreneurship” (June and September), “Business Models for Successful Startups” (September), and “Leadership & Art” (November), the videoconference “Google I/O Extended” (June), the conferences “How Science and Technology Can Fuel the Fire of Innovation” (July) and “Israel Start-Up Nation: A Southern Perspective on the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of One of Today’s Most Dynamic and Innovative Countries” (August), and the “First WINNOVA.uy Seminar in Uruguay” (November), reaching more than 450 students. NOTABLE STARTUPS IN 2012 ComparTeVe. Founders: Maximiliano Schatz, graduate in Electronic Engineering, Gabriel Roizner, and Federico Zubía. A TV audience measurement platform that integrates social media http://www.comparTeVe.com. The company won the award for the region’s most innovative media outlet in the Media Accelerator Program, secured support from the Startup Chile program, and received a mention as the year’s most innovative young media-related company, as voted by the public at the Festival of Media LatAm held in Miami. FashionBox. Entrepreneurs: Margot Baridon and Cecilia Mendlowicz, students in the Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Administration, a platform that allows users to design custom accessories, create prototypes, and purchase them online http://www.fashionboxstore.com. The project won the Emprendedores en la Mira Competition organized by Red Emprender in the Value Chain Management category.
