48 2012 Yearbook Jewish Studies Teacher Training Course “The Shoah: The Human Condition and Memory” The Department of Jewish Studies organized the third edition of the course “The Shoah: The Human Condition and Memory,” which was attended by 24 teachers from the National Secondary Education System and educators from non-formal education settings. The course, which took place from July 30 to August 20, aims to introduce teachers to relevant aspects of the Shoah (Jewish Holocaust) and concepts such as human rights, genocide, and memory. It was declared of “Ministerial Interest” by the Ministry of Education and Culture and received support from the Secondary Education Council. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2012 School of Engineering Camino TICs The Camino TICs Project offers full scholarships for technical programs in the field of Information Technology. Its goal is to enable young people who have dropped out of the formal education system to continue their studies and subsequently enter a field with high employment potential. The Rotary Club (Aguada) and the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI) collaborated on the project. In 2012, 30 applicants took an academic aptitude test, from which seven young people were selected to receive full scholarships, funded by the European Union (EU), Montevideo Shopping, and others. Universidad ORT UruguayScratch Day – Universidad ORT UruguayOn May 11, the School of Engineering and the Institute of Education organized the “Scratch Day” event for secondary school teachers, which consisted of a presentation of examples of how to use the Scratch program. The activity was led by Dr. Inés Kereki, Professor of Programming. Fifty-five secondary school teachers participated in the activity. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2012
