Eduardo Cuñarro, Ignacio Medoc, and Gonzalo Varela, graduates of the Systems Engineering program, and Ricardo Szyfer and Rodrigo Turnes, students in the Systems Engineering program. Ferragut’s thesis “Resource Allocation in Networks from the Perspective of Connections” won first prize in the “Doctoral Thesis in Electrical Engineering” category of the “Graduate Engineering Thesis Competition and Final Engineering Project Competition” organized annually by the National Academy of Engineering. Likewise, the “Kinamik” project by Cuñarro, Medoc, Varela, Szyfer, and Turnes won first prize in the “Undergraduate Projects, Computer Science” category. November. Ariel Burschtin, Systems Engineering graduate; Álvaro García, Systems Bachelor’s graduate; and Ruben Sosenke, Information Technology Analyst graduate. Their startup “Pedidos Ya!” received the “eCommerce Leaders in Services” award at the “eCommerce Awards Uruguay 2012.” July. Additionally, “Pedidos Ya!” took second place in the contest organized by the El Observador website, which selected the fifteen most innovative recent startups in Uruguay. January. Maximiliano Schatz, Graduate in Electronic Engineering. ComparTeVe, a startup incubated by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, created by Schatz alongside Gabriel Roizner and Federico Zubía, was recognized as the “most innovative company in Latin America” at the “Festival of Media Latam 2012,” which took place in Miami. ComparTeVe is the first smartphone app in Latin America that allows for the integration of non-traditional information into television audience measurement. October.
