2013 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay

51 Universidad ORT Uruguay LAUNCHED IN 2013 School of Engineering Name: Scratch MOOC 4 Teens (SM4T) The goal of this project, carried out in partnership with Plan Ceibal, is to promote the development of computational thinking and problem-solving skills among young people through the study of computer programming. The pilot edition of this Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), titled "Creating Games and Animations with Scratch," took place from October to November 2013. It involved 170 teachers and more than 1,000 high school students. Leaders: Víctor Paulós, Academic Secretary of the School of Technology, and Inés Kereki, Professor of Programming. Funding: Plan Ceibal Duration: 8 months Content propagation in dynamic distributed networks The project focuses on the mathematical modeling of data networks in which content resides in distributed agents and is propagated among them through sharing mechanisms. It studies the dynamics of peer-to-peer systems in wired networks and content-sharing systems with wireless access. Its purpose is to provide accurate performance predictions and propose improvements to the protocols. Principal Investigator: Fernando Paganini, Professor of Telecommunications Theory and Researcher. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) - Clemente Estable Fund (FCE) Duration: 12 months Programming languages and methods in type theory The objective of the project is to investigate syntactic systems that allow for the proper formalization of computability models such as Lambda Calculus and certain concurrent process calculi. Principal Investigator: Nora Szasz, Academic Coordinator of Systems Engineering. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) - Clemente Estable Fund (FCE) Duration: 24 months SM4T (Scratch MOOC 4 Teens)
