8 2013 Yearbook: Risk Management Chair - CPA Ferrere On July 10, 2013, the School of Business and Social Sciences launched the Risk Management Chair, with the support of CPA Ferrere. Speakers at the launch included Dr. Gaston Labadie, Dean of the school, and Cr. Bruno Gili, Partner at CPA Ferrere and Professor of Financial Planning; Juan Voelker, Senior Manager of the Financial Consulting Department at CPA Ferrere and Professor of Risk and Financial Instruments in the MBA program; and Dr. Gabriel Basaluzzo, Visiting Professor at the University of San Andrés, Argentina. This chair aims to consolidate the education provided by the faculty in this discipline, integrating new areas of risk management in Uruguay and bringing in internationally renowned professors. Diploma Programs in Economics and Finance in Paraguay The Ministry of Finance of Paraguay selected Universidad ORT Uruguay offer Diploma Programs in Economics and Finance in that country. The formal launch of these postgraduate programs took place in Asunción in March 2013. The ministry’s objective is to provide postgraduate-level training in these disciplines to public officials, for which it received funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The School of Administration and Social Sciences signed a cooperation agreement with the Barcelona School of Management at Pompeu Fabra University so that professors from that institution could join the faculty for these diploma programs. Inauguration of the 3D Prototyping Laboratory In May 2013, the Faculty of Communication and Design inaugurated the 3D Prototyping Laboratory, developed with the support of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). This laboratory incorporates innovative technologies that enable the production of precise parts through the integration of product design and modeling with machine operation, using software that interprets the specifications defined in the design. It is the first laboratory in Uruguay to has equipment for educational purposes. INSTITUTIONAL NEWS 2013
