55 IPR HelpDesk Mercosur The objective of the project is to establish an intellectual property assistance service for small European businesses seeking to enter Mercosur markets. Project Leader: Enrique Topolansky, Coordinator of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Funding: European Citizen Action Service (ECAS) Duration: 12 months Colorimetric nanobiosensor for the detection of Campylobacter fetus This system replaces the currently used monoclonal antibody system, which requires sample transport, with the resulting logistics costs and delays in testing. The objective of this project is to develop a nanotechnological methodology for the detection of Campylobacter fetus that is highly sensitive, cost-effective, and suitable for on-site use, which can be applied by livestock producers themselves on their farms, with minimal time consumption—just a few minutes. Principal Investigator: Lorena Betancor, Research Professor of Biotechnology. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and Zurgen Laboratory. Duration: 12 months. Start Year: 2015. Bovine Chymosin. The objective of this project is to generate a stable yeast strain capable of synthesizing bovine chymosin on a large scale. Chymosin is a protein produced by the gastric cells of ruminant calves to curdle the milk they ingest, thereby improving absorption. The proposal is to use genetic engineering as a tool to produce bovine chymosin in yeast and transfer the technology to the company JUCAR. Principal Investigator: Carlos Sanguinetti, Academic Coordinator of Biotechnology. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the company Juncar Duration: 12 months Mesh communication system for agro-industrial telemetry The objective of this project is to develop a long-range wireless communication system, designed for agricultural machinery, to centralize the monitoring of deployed equipment and strengthen resource management in an agro-industrial environment. Principal Investigator: Andrés Ferragut, associate professor of Data Networks and researcher. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the company Smartway Duration: 12 months PROJECTS INITIATED OR APPROVED IN 2014
