57 School of Architecture Study of Eucalyptus Grandis glued-laminated timber beams produced in Uruguay for assignment to strength classes The objective of this project is to determine the structural properties of Eucalyptus glued-laminated timber beams and assign them to strength classes. The project will contribute to the definition of a strength class system for glued laminated timber produced in the country and will provide information for the national development of a structural design code. Project Leader: Laura Moya, research professor and full professor of Structures. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) Duration: 24 months Technical documents serving as a basis for the standardization of wood structures and construction The objective of this project is the development of technical documents that will serve as a basis for the creation of standards, guidelines, or regulations for the development of wood structure construction in Uruguay. The project was initiated by the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay, the School of Engineering at the University of the Republic, and the Department of Forestry Projects at the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU). Project leaders: Laura Moya, research professor and full professor of Structures, Vanesa Baño, and Hugo O'Neill. Funding: Industrial Fund of the Directorate of Industries of the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM) Duration: 12 months Institute of Education Toward improving learning for children and youth in Latin America and the Caribbean: disruption and innovations The main objective of this project is the preparation, organization, and execution of a regional seminar to discuss the paper, as well as the production of a book to be published by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 2015. “Perspectives on Achieving Better Learning Opportunities for Children and Youth in Latin America and the Caribbean,” the result of a previous project by the Institute of Education with UNICEF.
