7 INSTITUTIONAL NEWS ITEMS 2014 Documentary: Giza, the Girl in the Suitcase Universidad ORT Uruguay the Blanquerna School of Communication at Ramon Llull University in Barcelona produced the documentary *Giza, the Girl in the Suitcase*. The film was written and directed by Dr. David Serrano Blanquer, a professor at the Blanquerna School of Communication at Ramon Llull University, and production was overseen by Prof. Charlotte de Grunberg, General Director of Universidad ORT Uruguay. It tells the story of Giza Alterwajn, born in 1940 in the Warsaw Ghetto, from which she escaped hidden in a suitcase before she turned one year old. She survived the war in the home of a Polish Christian family and arrived in Uruguay after the war ended. After 65 years without contact, Giza and her adoptive sister were reunited in Poland. The documentary premiered in February 2014 at the 11th Punta del Este Jewish Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Film. The Festival honored the General Director of ORT Uruguay, Prof. Charlotte de Grunberg, with the presentation of a plaque of recognition by the Maldonado Departmental Government. Emprende Cultura Project In March 2014, the Emprende Cultura Project was launched, with the primary objective of strengthening the capacities of institutions supporting cultural agents in the interior of the country. It is funded by the European Union and has as partners the General Foundation of the University of Alicante, the CEI Institute of Maldonado, the CTC centers in Colonia and Paysandú, and the University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). Its purpose is to raise awareness among 700 cultural agents to engage in initiatives related to cultural industries, while respecting regional identity. The CIE participated in the creation of the Innovation Center at the Technological University of Honduras In July 2014, the launch of the UTH Avanza Innovation Center took place at the Technological University of Honduras. It was created with the support of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
