2014 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay
70 2014 Yearbook Global Game Jam 2014 in Uruguay Seven video games were created by teams of programmers and video game designers at the “Global Game Jam 2014 in Uruguay,” organized by Antel and the Video Game Department of the School of Communication and Design. The event took place from January 24 to 26 at the Telecommunications Tower. This global event, organized by the International Game Developers Association, was created to facilitate the exchange of experiences among video game developers, programmers, designers, musicians, animators, and illustrators. Participants had to create a video game in 48 hours based on a global theme revealed to them at the event: “We do not see things as they are, but as we are.” First Latin American 3D Printing Competition The School of Communication and Design, with the support of the National Agency for Research and Innovation and Universia, organized the First Latin American 3D Printing Competition—Montevideo 2014 Edition “Everything Is Possible,” aimed at students and graduates from public and private universities in Latin American countries. Entries were required to explore the possibilities of innovation and the materialization of new forms associated with any object—whether life-size or to scale—that could be printed in three dimensions using layer-by-layer powder additive technology. The International Prize was awarded to Ariel Coviello, an Industrial Design student at the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires, and the National Prize was awarded to Fernando Foglino, an Architecture student at the University of the Republic.
