59 RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS INITIATED OR APPROVED IN 2015 School of Engineering Prototypes with Innovative Potential The objective of the project is to develop an analytics-based prototype implemented with software that enables the optimization of power generation facilities’ operations using convex and dynamic programming techniques. Project Leader: Andrés Ferragut, Associate Professor of Data Networks and Researcher. Funding: CSI Ingenieros Duration: 24 months Start Year: 2016 Dependent Type Theory The objective of this project is to investigate dependent type theories and their use for the formalization of meta-mathematical results of programming languages and the formal semantics of natural languages. Principal Investigator: Nora Szasz, Academic Coordinator of Systems Engineering. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) Duration: 24 months Smart grids and their markets in the presence of renewable energy The objective of this project is to study the impact of renewable energy in conjunction with smart grid technologies. The project is a collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Electrical Engineering at Udelar. Principal Investigator: Fernando Paganini, Professor of Telecommunications Theory. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) Duration: 18 months Fluid analysis of network content dissemination and cloud systems The project studies content distribution networks and cloud computing systems, analyzed using dynamic fluid models. This continues the MATE group’s line of research on telecommunications networks, marking the fourth project supported by the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) since 2006. Principal Investigator: Fernando Paganini, Professor of Telecommunications Theory. Funding: U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Duration: 15 months
