9 La Casa Uruguaya of the 2015 Solar Decathlon The Uruguayan House, designed by students and faculty from all of the university’s schools, won first prize on December 15, 2015, in the 2015 Solar Decathlon Latin America and the Caribbean, the world’s most important sustainable architecture competition. The goal of this competition was to provide solutions to a recurring problem throughout Latin America: the need for housing for low-income sectors that incorporates the use of clean and renewable energy, contributing to environmental preservation. Free massive open online course to learn programming aimed at young people worldwide On March 9, Universidad ORT Uruguay the University of Edinburgh in Scotland launched on Coursera, the world’s largest online course platform, the first bilingual MOOC (massive open online course) to teach computer programming. More than 80,000 people from 197 countries registered for this course, whose Spanish-language version was titled A Programar and the English-language version Code Yourself. Its main objective is to introduce young people to programming using the Scratch language. The academic team consisted of Dr. Inés Friss de Kereki, Professor of Programming at the School of Engineering, and Dr. Areti Manataki, Research Professor at the School of Informatics, The University of Edinburgh. The project was directed and coordinated by the academic secretary of the School of Technology, A/P Víctor Paulós, and the Distance Education Analyst, Dr. Plinio Gañi. Launch of the Emprende Cultura 2015 Program In February 2015, the Emprende Cultura 2015 program was launched, with the goal of promoting cultural projects throughout the country. Emprende Cultura is coordinated by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Universidad ORT Uruguay, supported by the CEI Civil Association, the Interior Research and Development Center Foundation (CIDTI), the CTC Paysandú Center for Technical and Vocational Education, and the University of Alicante Foundation, and funded by the European Union.
