Prof. Gustavo López (United States) Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the City University of New York. Prof. Raymond Tu (United States) Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the City University of New York. Prof. Rein Ulijn (United States) Director of Nanoscience at the Center for Advanced Science Research at the City University of New York. They taught the course “Advances in Nanotechnology: Biomolecular Engineering, Computational Methods, and Colloidal Science. State of the Art and Applications,” aimed at undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals in the sciences interested in nanotechnology, supported by the National Agency for Research and Innovation, August 15–19. Dr. Enrique Mallada (United States) Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Johns Hopkins University. He holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Universidad ORT Uruguay. He delivered the lecture “Distributed primal-dual decomposition for the joint study of economic dispatch and frequency regulation” on August 15. Dr. Gianfranco Grompone (France) Director of the Microbiota Thematic Unit at Bioaster, a public-private institute created by the French government in conjunction with founding industrial partners. He delivered the lecture “Biotechnology and Microbiota: Translational Approaches to Market Entry,” on March 8. Dr. Maribel Fernández (United Kingdom) Professor in the Department of Computer Science at King’s College London. She visited the faculty as part of the project “Design of a type-checking algorithm for a nominal dependent type system—towards a nominal logical framework,” funded by the British Embassy in Montevideo, April 25–29. Prof. Peter Leadlay (United Kingdom) Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge and director of the biotechnology company Biotica.
