75 OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2016 Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurship Marathon Emprendetón The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, CPA Innovation, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), and the Da Vinci Foundation launched the second edition of the Emprendetón competition in August. The event challenges entrepreneurs to present innovative ideas in the categories of agriculture, health, banking, and creative industries to solve specific problems posed by local companies. It is sponsored by the Spanish Association, IBM, Banco Santander, the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), and the National Meat Institute (INAC). Faculty of Engineering Project Fair at the Faculty of Engineering On March 1, a Project Fair took place at the Faculty of Engineering, aimed at students in the Programmer Analyst, Information Technology Analyst, Bachelor of Systems, and Systems Engineering programs. Students chose from more than 30 proposals with academic or research value to develop for their final-year projects. For participating companies and institutions, such as SOS Children’s Villages, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), and the Uruguayan Chess Federation, this event allows them to engage students with their proposals and recruit talent. Girls in ICT Day To promote women’s participation in technology careers, “Girls in ICT Day” took place on April 28, an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union. The event was organized by Antel, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), Greentizen, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), LATU/Espacio Ciencia, the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining, Plan Ceibal, and Universidad ORT Uruguay. More than 600 female students from the 1st to 3rd years of secondary school participated. The School of Engineering organized two workshops: “App Inventor,” led by Dr. Inés Kereki, professor of Programming; and “Robotics,” led by André Fonseca, professor of Analog Electronics and Automatic Control at the school.
