76 2016 Yearbook OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2016 TADHack 2016 On May 10 and 11, the School of Engineering and TeleStax organized the Telecom Application Developer Hackathon (TADHack) for the first time in Uruguay, a competition that bridges telecommunications and software. The purpose of the event is to promote the development of telecommunications applications. TADHack has been successfully held in cities such as Buenos Aires, Chicago, Colombo, Dublin, London, Madrid, Melbourne, Paris, Tel Aviv, and Tokyo. Scratch Day 2016 The School of Engineering and Plan Ceibal organized the Scratch Day 2016 event on May 13. As part of this event, the workshop for teachers “Scratch MOOC” was held, led by Dr. Inés Kereki, professor of Programming. Twenty teachers from public high schools in Montevideo and Canelones participated. Scratch is a programming language developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that allows users to create animations and games. Camino TIC The Camino TIC project offers scholarships for technical degree programs in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Its goal is to provide technical training to young people from low-income households. In August 2016, 22 candidates applied, of whom 19 were selected. The support network consists of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), the Rotary Club of Aguada, and Universidad ORT Uruguay. The project is 50% funded by the university’s student scholarship program and the other 50% by the companies and institutions Bantotal, CSI Ingenieros, Fundación Itaú, Montevideo Shopping, and Unión Capital AFAP, with support from Gallito.com.
