74 2017 Yearbook OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2017 12th ICT Job Fair On September 13, the Graduate Coordination Office of the School of Engineering organized the 12th Information Technology Job Fair, which was declared of educational interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture and of ministerial interest by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Thirty-six companies and organizations participated, including Despegar, El Gallito, Mercado Libre, Moove-IT, PedidosYa, Pronto, Quanam, República AFAP, Sabre, and Tata Consultancy Services. 17th ORT Programming Contest The 17th ORT Programming Contest took place on September 14. The teams that took the top two spots in the competition represented Uruguay in the Latin American Final of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Programming Contest, which took place in Buenos Aires on November 11 with the participation of 2,462 teams from 14 countries. The team consisting of Bruno Ferrari, Santiago Méndez, and Diego Zuluaga, Systems Engineering students, ranked 203rd (top 8.25%); and the team consisting of Franco Gario, Martín Michelini, and Matías Rodríguez, Systems Engineering students, ranked 244th (top 9.91%). MOOC Course on Computational Thinking for Secondary School Teachers The School of Engineering developed and implemented a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Computational Thinking, organized at the request of Plan Ceibal, whose first edition took place from October to December via the Crea platform. A total of 1,100 secondary school teachers from across the country participated. The course aims to help students develop basic skills to identify a problem, understand it, and arrive at innovative solutions.
