73 OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2017 Scratch Day 2017 On May 17, the School of Engineering and Plan Ceibal organized the Scratch Day 2017 event. As part of the event, an exhibition of elementary and secondary school projects was held, and Dr. Inés Kereki, professor of Programming at the Faculty of Engineering, gave a presentation open to teachers and students on the different versions of Scratch, including the new version 3.0. More than 120 teachers and students from Montevideo and various departments in the interior of the country participated. Scratch is a programming language developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that allows users to create animations and games. Camino TICs Since 2010, the Camino TICs project has offered scholarships for technical courses and degree programs in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Its goal is to provide technical training to young people from low-income households in fields with high employment rates. In 2017, a total of 17 students were selected, with support from the university’s student scholarship program and the companies Bantotal, Fundación Itaú, and Unión Capital AFAP. To date, more than 200 students have benefited from this project.
