He led the workshop “Everything you wanted to know about using smartphones in your classroom: 10+ engaging labs to teach mechanics, sound, light, E&M, and modern physics” and presented the article “What can you do with your students’ smartphones while teaching Physics?” 10 at the 2017 Winter Meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers, held at the School of Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Atlanta, February 18–21. 10 Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Cecilia Cabeza and Dr. Arturo C. Martí, professors of Applied Physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of the Republic (Udelar), and Dr. Cecilia Stari, professor of Solid-State Physics at the Faculty of Engineering of Udelar. Prof. Martín Monteiro Dr. Fernando Paganini (United States) Professor of Telecommunications Theory. He presented the papers “Distribution network management based on optimal power flow: integration of discrete decision variables” 11 and “A feedback control approach to dynamic speed scaling in computing systems” 12 at the 51st Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS 2017), organized by Johns Hopkins University and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Information Theory Society, Baltimore, March 22–24. Dr. Inés Friss de Kereki (United States) Professor of Programming. She presented the paper “Plan for collaborative interventions to improve retention: a perspective from introductory programming courses” 13 at the 15th LACCEI (Latin American and Caribbean Conference for Engineering and Technology) International Multi-Conference for Engineering, Education and Technology, organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, July 19–21. 11 Conducted in collaboration with Enrique Briglia, Engineer, researcher for the CSI Engineers Project—National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay—and Sebastián Alaggia, Engineer, research assistant for the Optimal Load Flow Project and researcher at the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM) – Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Faculty of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay. 12 Conducted in collaboration with Diego Goldsztajn, research teaching assistant at the Faculty of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay, and Dr. Andrés Ferragut, associate professor of Data Networks at the faculty. 13 Conducted in collaboration with Alejandro Adorjan, M.S., associate academic coordinator of Systems Engineering at the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
