8 2018 Yearbook INSTITUTIONAL NEWS 2018 Uruguay’s First Scopus Award Was Presented to Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg The Scopus Award, presented by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was awarded to the president of Universidad ORT Uruguay, Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg, at a ceremony held on August 19 in Montevideo. Upon receiving this distinction, which recognizes those who stand out for their contributions to the State of Israel, Jewish education, and humanity, the general director joins a list that includes figures such as Simone Veil, Zubin Mehta, and Barbra Streisand. The director received the award from Dr. Gabriel Goldman, president of the Uruguayan Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, alongside the Israeli ambassador to Uruguay, Galit Ronen, and Prof. Edwin Seroussi, professor of musicology and director of the Center for Jewish Music Research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. During his presentation, while explaining the reasons why it was decided that the first Scopus Award in Uruguay would go to Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg, Dr. Goldman referred to the general director’s career since her arrival in the country in 1952, highlighting her role in the creation of Universidad ORT Uruguay her participation in coordinating international projects in underprivileged neighborhoods of Montevideo.
