9 INSTITUTIONAL NEWS 2019 Inauguration of the CIE BIO Biotechnology Incubator On May 6, the CIE BIO Biotechnology Incubator was inaugurated. The initiative was promoted by the Center for Biotechnology Research and Innovation (CBI+I), the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Universidad ORT Uruguay the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC). The purpose of CIE BIO is to foster and promote biotechnology-based startups. The project has support of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and is physically located at ORT’s CIE. Two programs in the School of Engineering received ARCU-SUR regional accreditation. On June 12, the Education Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Culture, through the Ad Hoc Accreditation Commission, presented the universities with accreditation plaques under the 2019 ARCU-SUR System for the Engineering and Dentistry programs. This system provides a public guarantee, among the countries in the region, of the academic and scientific level of their degree programs. The Faculty of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay accreditation plaques for the maximum term of six years for the Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering programs, which had already been accredited in 2011. Present at the event were the rector , Dr. Jorge Grünberg; the dean of the faculty, Mario Fernández, Engineer; the academic secretary, Víctor Paulós, Assistant Professor; and the academic coordinator for both programs, Dr. André Fonseca.
