2020 Yearbook - Universidad ORT Uruguay

60 2020 Yearbook PROJECTS INITIATED OR APPROVED IN 2020 Integration and Control of Distributed Storage in Electrical Systems This project continues a joint research effort between the Applied Mathematics for Telecommunications research group at Universidad ORT Uruguay the School of Engineering at the University of the Republic, which began in 2011, on topics related to energy storage and dynamic programming applied to planning. The objective of this project is to investigate where to locate and how to operate short-term energy storage systems, such as batteries, using stochastic and dynamic programming methods, particularly reinforcement learning. Principal Investigator: Dr. Fernando Paganini Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the Julio Ricaldoni Foundation Duration: 20 months Data anonymization based on generative adversarial networks The objective of this project is to extend the approach to anonymization using generative adversarial networks (GANs) to sequential data. This allows for the anonymization of logs produced by devices and computer systems (network devices, WAFs, operating systems, and web servers, among others) for publication and/or subsequent use in cybersecurity applications. Principal Investigator: Dr. Sergio Yovine Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) Duration: 12 months Nanoantibodies as biopesticides with antifungal activity for agricultural application This project, the final thesis for the Biotechnology Engineering degree of students Camilia Chiesa and Agustina Olivera, aims to produce, purify, and evaluate the antifungal activityof two nanoantibodies previously described by De Coninck et al., 2017, to be proposed as new antifungal biopesticides for crop protection in the Southern Cone region. Principal Investigators: Mariana Ferrari, M.Sc., Enrique Topolansky, B.Sc., and Lucia Vanrell, Ph.D. Funding: National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and LTA Biotec, within the framework of the Center for Innovation in Engineering (CII) Duration: 12 months
