61 PROJECTS INITIATED OR APPROVED IN 2020 School of Management and Social Sciences Revealed comparative advantages in scientific and technological disciplines This project aims to estimate revealed comparative advantage indices for scientific and technological disciplines, drawing on the seminal work of Bela Balassa (1965). Multiple revealed comparative advantage indices have been estimated in the international trade literature, with this study being the first application of this idea to the evaluation of scientific output. A country has revealed comparative advantage in an area if that area has a greater weight in national scientific output than the discipline has in global scientific output. The project extends the theoretical framework, considers how to perform statistical significance tests on the results, and computes the respective indices in terms of published articles and citations.
