68 2020 Yearbook STUDENT PROJECTS WITH EXTERNAL ORGANIZATIONS 2020 Sonda Event Manager: Web-based event management platform Authors: Lucila Moreno, Carolina Rodríguez Fernández, and Carolyn Symonds Organization: Sonda Uruguay The objective of this project was to develop a platform that provides Sonda’s clients—a multinational company that designs and implements solutions to comprehensively meet organizations’ information technology needs—with a web-based system capable of managing events generated by IoT (Internet of Things) devices, offering an efficient service to centralize their valuable information. The project was carried out using an incremental iterative development cycle with Scrum as the methodological framework for software development. This approach yielded significant benefits, such as the ability to manage client expectations on an ongoing basis, mitigate risks from the outset, and deliver functional, viable, and usable results from the very first iterations. During development, the team focused on usability, maintainability, and system security. The result was the first version of the Sonda Event Manager web-based event management system, which fully meets the scope specified by the client. Additionally, Minga shares an old mansion with an interior courtyard with an Educational Training and Production Center (CECAP) located in downtown Las Piedras; this is where the students from Workshop 5 carried out their project. Both activities, undertaken by the students in a challenging context, provided an opportunity to use interior design to improve the quality of the spaces where this organization carries out its work.
