51 Universidad ORT Uruguay OUTREACH Universidad ORT Uruguay 2012 International Animation Festival - FIA'12 From October 22 to 25, the School of Communication and Design organized the 6th edition of the “International Animation Festival - FIA'12,” designated as an Event of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Since its first edition in 2007, works from more than 20 countries have participated. In the 2012 edition, works were presented from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, Finland, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, and Uruguay. The jury selected 55 works totaling four hours of animated screenings. Additionally, three special showcases were presented: “ASIFA Egypt” – International Animated Film Association, “Animamundi Brasil” – Brazil International Animation Festival, and “Producer Show” – a reel of works by students from CalArts (California Institute of the Arts). The Grand Jury Prize went to “Luminaris” by Argentine filmmaker Juan Pablo Zaramella, and the award for best Uruguayan animated short film went to “Zina musical” by Javier Figueroa. ORT Digital Program The Film Directing Department of the School of Communication and Design organized the ORT Digital Program, with support from Musitelli, Santander Universities, and the audiovisual equipment and technical support company HTV-3. On May 7, the presentation of the program’s results took place at the AlfaBeta Cinema, led by Dr. Álvaro Buela, Professor of Film Production, and a screening of the short films “El día de la familia,” directed and written by David Blankleider, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication, and “Extracorpus,” directed and written by Bernardo Antonaccio, a student in the same program.
