98 2013 Yearbook Néstor Gandelman Academic Coordinator of Economics. He received the “Bronze Morosoli Award in Economics” at the 19th annual “Morosoli 2013” Uruguayan Culture Awards. These awards aim to recognize various individuals and institutions that play a significant role in Uruguayan cultural life. November. Nicolás Juan, Full Professor of Taxation. He was appointed President of the Board of Directors of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies. June. Carolina García and Dinorah Margounato, Faculty Members of the Department of General Administration and Business Planning; Diego Coppa, Assistant in the Department of General Administration and Business Planning; and Brian Dodel, Assistant and student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Administration. Their paper “Developing managerial competencies: a study on the self-perception of undergraduate students” received a special mention in the “National Papers” category at the “9th Congress of Accounting Educators.” The event was organized by the Inter-American Accounting Association and the Uruguayan Association of Accountants, Economists, and Administrators. November. AWARDS 2013 Jaime Damiani, Academic Secretary, and Carolina García, Associate Academic Coordinator of the Public Accounting Program. They were named “Educators of the Americas” by the Inter-American Accounting Association. December. María Nela Seijas, Graduate of the Master’s in Economics. Her paper “Development of Capital Markets and Reformed Pension Funds: A Global Impact Study” received a Special Mention in the “First Economic Research Poster Contest” of the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies. December. Alejandro Mongrell, graduate of the Bachelor’s program in International Studies, and Julieta Falero and Trilce Gervaz, students in the Bachelor’s program in International Studies. They were selected in the competitive examination and merit-based selection process conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to join the Uruguayan Foreign Service. May. María Laura Arrosa, student in the Master’s program in Economics. Her research proposal “Gender Happiness Gap: Evidence from 24 Latin American Cities” was selected in the “Socioeconomic and Institutional Development of Latin America” Research Competition organized by the Andean Development Corporation (CAF). This earned her a prize of USD 2,000 and, once the research was completed, the opportunity to publish it as a working paper of the CAF Research Department. November.
