67th Project Fair at the School of Engineering On March 20, the School of Engineering hosted a Project Fair aimed at students in the Software Analyst, Information Technology Analyst, Bachelor of Systems, and Systems Engineering programs. Students chose from more than 25 proposals with academic or research value to develop for their final-year projects. For participating companies, this event allows them to engage students with their proposals and recruit talent. For students, it represents an opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the objectives of the proposals presented and the technologies they will be working with, among other aspects. Students Build Photobioreactors for an Eco-School Verónica Braida, Pía Campot, Eliana Nervi, and Carolina Tartaglia, students in the Bachelor’s in Biotechnology program, developed a project to build photobioreactors as part of their final thesis. The 3D Prototyping Laboratory at the School of Communication and Design collaborated on this project, interpreting the specifications defined by the students and designing and building the devices. The goal is to integrate them into an eco-school to help reduce anthropogenic carbon dioxide levels inside the building, support wastewater treatment, and obtain microalgae biomass to use as organic fertilizer for its garden. This eco-school will be built in the town of Jaureguiberry, in the department of Canelones, by a group of young Uruguayan entrepreneurs with the support of American experts. Scratch Day 2014 On May 16, the School of Engineering and Plan Ceibal organized the Scratch Day 2014 event for high school teachers and students, which took place at the Plan Ceibal headquarters. As part of this event, a Student Project Fair was held, along with Scratch 2.0 and Robotics/Scratch workshops, which drew a total of more than 130 participants. Scratch is a programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab that allows users to create animations and games and helps them become familiar with the basics of programming. The event took place simultaneously in several countries. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2014
