March. Magdalena Cárdenas, professor of Molecular Biology. She was selected by the National Academy of Sciences of Uruguay as the sole Uruguayan representative to participate in the Meeting with the Nobel Laureates, an international event that brings together outstanding young scientists from around the world. The event took place from June 29 to July 4 in Lindau, Germany. June. Fernando Paganini, professor of Telecommunications Theory. He was appointed editor at large of IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering. September. Marcelo Lanfranconi, graduate in Systems Engineering. He was one of the winners of the Innovators Under 35 competition in Argentina and Uruguay, held annually by MIT Technology Review. November. His startup Paganza, developed alongside Leonardo Vernazza and supported by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, was selected among the top 21 apps in the seventh edition of the Mobile Premiere Awards. February. José Chiarino, Juan Felipe Coirolo, Mariano San Andrea, and Nicolás Saúl, Systems Engineering students. Their project Flipped.uy was chosen as a finalist among more than 500 participating teams in the Imagine Cup 2014, a global competition organized by Microsoft for young students worldwide. June. Ignacio Oliveri, graduate of the Bachelor’s in Systems. His startup, ViperMed, was selected by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as one of the world’s most innovative startups to participate in the “Designing Solutions to Improve Lives” event, which will take place in Washington, D.C., in December 2015. ViperMed, which has support of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, was selected from among more than 200 startups from 22 countries in the region. September. Germán Chiazzo and Álvaro Ingold, Systems Engineering students, and Ismael Rodríguez, an Electronics Engineering student. They achieved a score in the top 5% of the regional finals of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) International Programming Contest held in Buenos Aires. November. Martín Zubeldía, research teaching assistant for the MATE (Mathematics Applied to Telecommunications) group. He received the Jacobs Presidential Fellowship awarded by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
