Álvaro Scarpelli, professor of Auditing. He was appointed president of the Uruguay-United States Chamber of Commerce. December. María Macarena Zas, student in the Bachelor of Management and Administration program. Her startup 1000 Razones, incubated at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, was one of twenty local companies selected to participate in the Acelerador 500 Montevideo program, organized by the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), Uruguay XXI, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), and the National Development Agency (ANDE). October. School of Architecture La Casa Uruguaya designed by students and faculty. It won first prize in the “The Public Chooses: Wood Architecture” competition, held as part of Wood Week organized by the Chilean Wood Corporation. August. Javier Olascoaga, a professor in Project 8 at the School of Architecture, alongside Raquel Lejtreger. They won the “Memorial Space of the Libertad Prison” competition to create a monument at kilometer 52.500 of Route 1 in the department of San José, in memory of the prisoners and those who died in the prison during the former Uruguayan dictatorship. December. Graziella Blengio, academic secretary of the School of Architecture. She was appointed president of the Association of Professional Interior Designers of Uruguay (ADDIP) for the 2017–2018 term. February. Additionally, her firm, Intuss Interior Design, won the Best Overall Design Award for the Uruguay XXI booth at the 11th edition of the China-LAC Summit at the Punta del Este Convention Center. December.
