65 STUDENT PROJECTS WITH EXTERNAL ORGANIZATIONS 2017 School of Engineering Application for the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Authors: Álvaro de la Rosa and Carolina Fernández Organization: Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of the Republic The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of the Republic is responsible for treating burn patients referred from various healthcare centers to the National Burn Center. This project arose from the department’s need for a tool to optimize its processes. Its main objective was to build a web and mobile application. The developed solution made it possible to expand the knowledge and reach of the plastic surgery specialty throughout the country; prevent diagnostic and treatment errors in patients with conditions within its field by centralizing information on the steps to follow in specific cases; generate and provide feedback to specialists regarding new clinical cases; offer various forms of communication and engagement between users and the department; minimize the number of unnecessary patient transfers; and automate decision-making regarding patient care. Degree Program: Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Advisor: A/P Rafael Cohen Construction Site Safety Management Authors: Ignacio Benedetto, Ignacio Berretta, Matías Garay, and Gastón Marichal Organization: Berkes, International Construction Company This project arose from the need of the international construction company Berkes for an application that would allow it to take early action to minimize the risk of accidents. Its main objective is to improve the construction site inspection process through the standardization and centralization of safety information, thereby enhancing and accelerating communication processes. The project involved the development of a mobile application for collecting safety information at construction sites and a web-based system for configuring, controlling, and tracking that information to effectively support decision-making. Through this application, the company can inspect construction sites of any type and record relevant information in a simple, agile, and standardized manner; this information is then transmitted to the web system, allowing for immediate analysis to determine necessary actions. It also features an alert module that aids in the control and tracking of incidents, notifying stakeholders when safety issues are detected. Major: Systems Engineering Advisor: Pablo Hernández Guimarans, B.S.
