66 2018 Yearbook SmartBin - Waste Container Management System Authors: Pedro Barrios, Fabricio Giordano, and Joaquín Muse Organization: IFSC Uruguay This project, which falls under the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, arose from a request by IFSC Uruguay to improve response times to fires in waste containers on public streets. The implementation of the solution, approached from the perspectives of infrastructure, telecommunications, and software, was carried out in parallel with a team composed of students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications program, who developed a hardware platform, and was supported by IFSC consultants. The project included the management of multiple remote sensors operating on the platform. The Smartbin web platform includes, in addition to remote data acquisition, user and role management, container self-provisioning, and reports based on various criteria. Degree Program: Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Advisor: Dr. Helena Garbarino Sportex: Sports Event Organization Platform Authors: Agustín García and Ignacio Vargas Organization: Kinamic The objective of this project is to provide smartphone users with an easy alternative for organizing sports events. It was designed and developed based on a survey of the requirements set forth by the client, the company Kinamic. The platform allows users to join sporting events of interest to them and confirm their attendance. Additionally, users can create and manage their own events, sending invitations to specific people or opening the event to the public so that any app user can join. The platform consists of a mobile app for Android devices, developed in React Native that consumes a REST API built with .NET Core, using an SQL Server database. It also includes an ASP.NET MVC web application for administrative tasks. The platform also uses machine learning technology to provide users with more accurate event suggestions. The machine learning implementation uses the K-Nearest Neighbors algorithm and consumes training data directly from the mobile app. Major: Systems Engineering Advisor: Diego De León, Eng.
