70 2018 Yearbook Scratch Day 2018 On May 11, the School of Engineering and Plan Ceibal organized Scratch Day 2018, an event the school has been holding since 2009. As part of the event, an exhibition of elementary and secondary school projects was held, and Dr. Inés Kereki, professor of Programming at the Faculty of Engineering, gave a presentation open to teachers and students on the different versions of Scratch, including the new version 3.0. More than 100 teachers and students from Montevideo and various departments in the interior of the country participated. Scratch is a programming language developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that allows users to create animations and games. Girls in ICT Day To promote women’s participation in technology careers, Girls in ICT Day took place on April 26, a global initiative promoted by the International Telecommunication Union. As part of this event, the School of Engineering organized two workshops: “App Inventor,” led by Dr. Inés Kereki, professor of Programming; and “Robotics,” led by Eng. Mariana Derderian, instructor of Linear Algebra and assistant to the Academic Coordinator of Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and Telecommunications at the school. In addition, the workshop “What Is a Chatbot?” was held, led by IBM. Participants included 11th-grade students from Escuela Integral and Colegio Paulo Freire. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES 2018
