72 2018 Yearbook: 18th ORT Programming Contest and 1st Programming Championship On September 5, the 18th edition of the ORT Programming Contest took place, and from April 12 to June 14, the 1st Programming Championship was held. The winning team of the contest and the champion of the tournament represented Uruguay in the Latin American Final of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Programming Contest, which took place in Buenos Aires on November 10 with the participation of 2,372 teams from 17 countries. The team consisting of Kevin Chacón, Gianfranco Papa, and Mauricio Pastorini, Systems Engineering students, ranked 141st (top 5.94%). School of Communication and Design Global Game Jam 2018 in Uruguay Nine video games were created by teams of programmers and video game designers at the seventh edition of the Global Game Jam in Uruguay. The event, organized by the Video Games Department of the School of Communication and Design in collaboration with Sinergia Cowork, took place from January 26 to 28. This global event, organized by the International Game Developers Association, was created to facilitate the exchange of experiences among video game developers, programmers, designers, musicians, animators, and illustrators. In 2018, it was held simultaneously in 108 countries, where 8,606 video games were created based on a global theme revealed at the event.
