124 2019 Yearbook Ignacio Corbo, a student in the Bachelor of Graphic Design program, and Fernando Díaz Morales, a faculty member and graduate of the Bachelor of Graphic Design program. Former U.S. Vice President (2009–2017) Joe Biden used the Brother 1816 typeface, created by Corbo and Morales, for his political campaign ahead of the 2020 presidential election. June. Mandy Barrios, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication with a focus on Journalism. She received a scholarship from the Carolina Foundation to pursue a Master’s degree in Editing, Production, and New Journalistic Technologies at CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. October. Federico Bello, Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences, graduate of the Master’s in Technology Business Management. His startup, Boki, won first prize in the international track of the University of San Diego’s V2 Pitch Competition. April. The startup also won the region’s first international pitch competition, organized by the University of San Diego and Universidad ORT Uruguay Viña Edén, Punta del Este. February. Mauricio Pintado, a graduate of the Specialization Diploma in Human Resources, alongside Rodrigo Pereira. Their startup Zafrales, incubated at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), won the third edition of Elevator Day organized by Banco Santander. August. Additionally, Zafrales was recognized as the “Startup of the Year” at the Emprendo Awards, an annual honor presented by the Café & Negocios supplement of the newspaper El Observador. November.
